Energy Efficient Double Glazing - The Facts

All properties lose heat through their windows. Installing Energy Efficient Double Glazing is an effective way of reducing your energy bills and keeping your home warmer and quieter. Energy Saving Windows use two sheets of glass sealed together with a gap between them which creates an insulating barrier, The performance of this barrier is further improved by the use of 'Warm Edge' spacer bars (which prevent heat loss through conduction), and also by the use of Inert Gases (typically Argon) injected into the cavity to reduce convection within the Airspace. Finally a 'Low Emissivity' coating on the inner pane of glass (which is a poor radiator), reflects valuable heat back into the house. A combination of these 3 steps will produce the most Energy Efficient Window. A Window Energy Rating Scheme WERS is now in place to show the energy efficiency of windows & Doors. Ranging from A - G, this is a similar system to the one you may have seen on appliances such as your fridge, or washing machine. Windows rated A (or above) are the most Energy Efficient.
